Success Stories: Building Tech Talent For Employment
The internship at SABEN prepared me for the IT workplace. Although I planned to apply for other opportunities after the internship, the company saw it fit to employ me. With the employment, I took the responsibility to specialize in VOIP (Voice over IP), a new technology offered by the company. This specialization area has allowed me to provide facilitation (training) to our clients in Cape Town and Johannesburg. I am to grow my understanding in Microsoft Azure platform to assist the company in growing new clients for this latest technology. I am grateful for the I-CAN Centre who became my launchpad for success.
I was working as an Admin Clerk for Rest Assured Life, an Insurance company before I started studying at the I-CAN Centre. I always had a desire to venture into the IT industry, but were looking for an affordable institution to further my studies. It has opened new opportunities in my life with regards to knowledge and work. It has helped me gain a greater understanding about computers and helped me gain a better position within the company I work for. I am now a Junior Web Developer working on the back-end system of the company. My aim is further my programming skills to build applications to make the world a better place.
Before I came to The I-CAN Centre, I worked full-time as an Office Administrator. I heard about The I-CAN Centre through Social Media (Facebook).
I want to do my little bit to give or have an impact or the IT industry. Due to financial constraints, I could not pursue my dreams in completing IT Server Engineer studies, after completing courses at the I-CAN Center. With support of the I-CAN partnerships within the IT Industry, I applied for an internship at BCX (College of Cape Town and Capacity) and was accepted.
Since I’ve completed these courses at the I-CAN Centre, I was inspired to follow a career path in IT. With the encouragement and recommendation of Mr L. Scholtz,I enrolled for more courses at the College of Cape Town, an opportunity from the I-CAN Centre. Since then I have completed the following courses: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) (2017) course. I am currently doing an Oracle Java Programming Course at On The Ball College, through an I-CAN relationship with the institution. My aim is to combine my technical training with software development to build applications that will better the lives of people. The I-CAN Centre have opened these doors for me and has given me the opportunity to continue to explore my future within the IT industry.

I was at home after I’ve dropped out of school grade 11 due to me thinking of becoming a photographer and after numerus researches I found that ican was the cheapest option from the other campus in my local area such as UWC, UCT AND NORTH-LINK. I was on facebook and got an
page invite by a friend to like the I-CAN facebook page and the following week after following the facebook feeds I went to go see what the Centre is about. I visited the Centre one day and one of the staff members gave me full description of all the courses provided and the benefits for me if I enroll. A friend that has attend courses at the I-CAN Centre and she told me about the Entrepreneurship course she attended last year August and recommended that course to me. I completed quite a few introductory courses like Koeberg course, Entrepreneurship course and attended every Friday for short Google Day courses. For me I did the entrepreneurship course last year we were asked to create our own business and I decided to create a coffee shop. As time went on i came back to do the entrepreneurship course where we were asked the same questions. The business I decided to create this year is called Intervention for me. In the year of 2014 I had about 8 school children and I decided to help them with their school work. Then I found out that this is my passion and this is what I want to do. And the courses that I completed even the short courses every Friday it help me a lot. I could my own website, flyer's, business cards, banners, etc. i took all that information created my business and ventured into the business world. I believe this will not be the end for me not attending any courses at the I-Can Centre.
