The high unemployment rate amongst youth, the current digital divide and the scarcity of skills in South Africa impacts the country’s economic status and climate. To the extent that South Africa GDP is negatively impacted through a lack of growth. Although the need for transformation exists within the economic climate, it has to start with evaluating the education impact through vocational training. Indeed, the growth is slow, as more people need to be trained in vocational digital skills to enter the job market. 

The Future of Jobs Report 2023 by the World Economic Forum further promotes the evolution of skills, where digital skills will become the currency of a digital economy. 

Young people in South Africa are losing hope as acquiring digital skills has become expensive, and they cannot afford to pay for these training programmes to land their dream job, and change the narrative about their livelihoods. … These variables further widened the digital divide, creating hopelessness for youth about their country. Moreover, this hopelessness of youth will increase crime, gangsterism and domestic violence in families and societies, resulting in South Africa to be listed amongst the countries with high crime rate. Also, based on South Africa Gender Based Violence Initiatives, we find more women affected, making them vulnerable. This negative impact also stems from lack of skills from women, in which they are marginalized. 

We can save our nation through education, skills and opportunities! Therefore, such interventions must be funded to address the gaps as mentioned, and also develop a sustainable social, educational and economic model for transformation.
